James is a minor character in Smiling Friends who first appeared in the episode “Gwimbly: Definitive Remastered Enhanced Extended Edition DX 4K (Anniversary Director’s Cut).
Appearance
James is a stocky, muscular man with pale white skin. He is bald with piercing red eyes and a sharp nose and chin. He wears a black shirt with a faded white skull and red pants.
Personality
James is generally aggressive and mean. He shows little regard for social boundaries or respect for others, as he was willing to break into the Smiling Friends HQ, destroy the break room, and force Charlie to perform dozens of unnecessary tasks because of a loophole that allows the Smiling Friends to do anything. insists on making their clients smile. Whenever Charlie brings him something, he immediately throws it against the wall, saying that the mess doesn’t help him smile. He often bullies and harasses Charlie, even going so far as to rip Charlie’s nose off his face because he finds it “distracting”. He has no qualms about killing when he threatens Charlie’s life and stabs the director of Insane Groundbreaking Games to death (which makes him laugh in the end).
Much later, it seems that all of his bullying was a result of James having feelings for Charlie and being unable to express them in any capacity other than mental and physical abuse. He is either a closeted homosexual or a deeply antisocial individual who sees Charlie as the only person who could tolerate his behavior for so long.
Details
His design is quite similar to one of the guests from A Silly Halloween Special who helped kill the forest demon as he also had pale skin and wore a black skull shirt. It is not confirmed if he is meant to be the same character as James.
